Leslie Ross Craig Jr. was born May 4, 1919, in Kearny, NJ, the eldest child of Leslie Sr. and Elizabeth (Adair) Craig.

In 1938, at the age of seventeen, Mr. Craig joined the US Naval Reserve and was called to active duty prior to the start of WWII where he served as a naval photographer. Based primarily on Panama and two different carriers, Mr. Craig documented the people, places, and events of the war. After a total of seven years of service to his country, Mr. Craig was honorably discharged on May 10, 1945. He subsequently belonged to the National Association of Naval Photographers.

After his naval service, Mr. Craig relocated with his wife Jane (Merritt) to Glen Rock, NJ. There he began what would be a long career in real estate sales and development for a number of major oil companies. In Glen Rock, he was elected to the city council and was instrumental in the formation of the city's first "ambulance corps". He served as the corps' first president and helped to secure the funds for an ambulance and a building to be used for the corps' operation.

Through the years, Mr. Craig worked for several oil companies, including Arco, Hess, Shell, and BP, retiring from BP in 1985. While he was with Shell Oil, Mr. Craig received national recognition for Shell projects that he worked on. Mr. Craig was active in community and civic affairs in the many communities in which he lived.

Upon his retirement, he and his family moved to Jacksonville and settled in Deerwood.

Mr. Craig is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Mrs. Jane (Merritt) Craig, son Christopher J. Craig of Jacksonville, sister Mrs. Ruth Schuch of Spring Lake, NJ, two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family held a celebration of Mr. Craig's life at a funeral Mass on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Jacksonville, FL.
