Paul LaRue Dowdy, 75, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at AnMed Health Medical Center after battling pancreatic cancer for just over a year.
Born December 27, 1944, in Beatrice, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Reverend William Earl Dowdy, Sr and the late Nell Dozier Dowdy. Paul is survived by his wife Doris Ellen Bolt Dowdy; his two daughters, Darlene Ellen Dowdy of Anderson, SC and Dawn LeAnne Dowdy Hathcock and husband Kevin of Woodstock, GA; and two grandchildren, Ian and Claire Hathcock. He is also survived by his two brothers, William Earl Dowdy, Jr and wife Arminta of Fort Mill, SC and David Wayne Dowdy and wife Karen of Cleveland, TN.
Paul lived in Anderson, SC for the last 60 years working in retail for most of his adult life. He loved fishing, camping, trips to the mountains, and spending time on Lake Hartwell. Nothing delighted him more than spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Paul was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, was the Commander of the Palmetto Sharpshooters Camp, was the First Brigade Commander, and was a member of McQueen’s Light Artillery/Kershaw’s Brigade living history groups. He also owned and operated Dowdy’s Tax Services.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, September 6, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, September 7, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougal Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Evans and Rev. Dale Dyer officiating followed by a graveside service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
