James W. Leslie, 91, of South Kingstown , passed away Saturday. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Cannon) Leslie.

Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late William and Theresa (Fleming) Leslie.

Mr. Leslie graduated from South Kingstown High School, where he was voted most likely to succeed. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island and earned his Master's degree from Columbia University.

Mr. Leslie retired from the University of Rhode Island as Vice President of Development in 1994, after a 30 year career. He had previously been employed by the Providence Journal and Northeastern University.

He enjoyed sailing and was a member of the URI Sailing Club.

He served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by three children Cynthia Leslie of South Glastonbury, CT, Nancy Leslie of Wakefield, and James Leslie, Jr. of Griswold, CT; and three grandchildren Kalea Soltoff, Emily Leslie, and Julia Leslie.

He was the brother of the late Robert Leslie and Helen Taylor.

Funeral services were private.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
