Matthew Joseph Adams was called home on June 18, 2020 at the young age of 66. He passed away in his sleep after a brief battle with cancer. Matthew was born February 1, 1954 in New Orleans, LA and had three brothers, Ronald, Daniel, and Paul as well as three sisters, Patricia, Rachel, and Rebecca. He grew up in Germany, France, and Nevada before spending his high school years in San Diego, CA where he met the love of his life, Sheryl (Moore) Adams in 1974. Matt joined the Air Force and traveled to Arkansas, Okinawa Japan, Oklahoma and finally Alaska on July 1, 1991. Along the way they had 3 sons, Andrew, Richard, and Timothy. Matthew and his family joined Grandview Baptist Church where he eventually became an ordained deacon. Matthew was an outstanding example not only to his children and grandchildren, but also anyone who ever met him.
Matthew retired after 26 years of dedicated service to the Air Force, and found a new calling at the Heritage Christian School working as a teacher and bus driver. He later became a civilian contractor on JBER before finally retiring in 2018. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and had an extensive model train collection.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 45 years Sheryl, his 3 sons Andrew, Richard, and Timothy, his 3 brothers, Ronald, Daniel, and Paul, 2 of his sisters, Rachel, and Rebecca and 13 grandchildren, Peter Adams, Nathaniel Adams, Eryn Adams, Donavon Adams, Jasmine Adams, Simeon Adams, Treaton Adams, Thomas Adams, Joshua Adams, Luke Adams, Joey Adams, Silas Adams, and Brandon Wiehe. He is joining his mother Gisela Strey Adams, his father Geoffrey Adams, and his sister Patricia Adams. Matt loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart as well as his family and friends. The service will be held at Grandview Baptist Church 1300 Columbine St, Anchorage, Alaska 99508 on July 7, 2020 at 10:30. Until we meet again my love.
