JOHN HARRISON STANLEY departed this life Jan. 11, 1921, at the home of his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Boch, Newell, Iowa, at the age of 32 years, 4 months and 8 days John Stanley has been gradually failing since he came from Milford to Newell early last summer. Since coming to Newell he has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Boch, where he received every attention that loving hearts and hands could minister to him. It was apparent that his disease was incurable and all that could be done was done to make bis last days on earth as comfortable as possible. He was bed fast five or six weeks before death came-to his relief, he gradually grew weaker and weaker until his tired body gave out and he fell asleep, Mr. Stanley has lived all his life in the state of Iowa and mostly in this vicinity. His boyhood years and his young manhood were passed on the old Stanley homestead in Douglas township. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in his young manhood. He was married in April, 1916, to Mrs. Eleanor Anderson, who survives him. No children were born to this union, but he leaves a stepdaughter, Lillian. Mr. Stanley was well known and esteemed in this community. His kindness of heart and many excellent traits of character will be remembered by those who knew him best. His life has been short. He had scarcely reached the noontide of life but his sun has set, his day has ended, and his soul has returned to his Maker. Those who were near and dear to him will feel his loss but God's will must be done, and He is too wise to make mistakes and too good to be unkind. Besides his wife and step daughter Mr. Stanley leaves to mourn his loss two brothers and five sisters: Clarence E. Stanley of Douglas township, Sac county; Melvin S. Stanley of Newell; Mrs. Florence Whitesitt of Newell; Mrs. Clara Day of Sexton, Iowa; Mrs. Nora Boch of Newell; Mrs. Anna Fyfe of Douglas township, Sac county; and Mrs. Maud Hunter of. Appleton, Minn. The funeral services were held in the M. E. church of Newell Thursday afternoon, Jan. 13, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Joseph J. Share, who spoke words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives. Appropriate music was rendered by the choir and beautiful cut flowers testified mutely to the esteem in which Mr. Stanley was held. The interment took place in Newell cemetery.
