Peggy Lee Lambert
October 2, 1950 - August 30, 2020

Peggy Lee Rideshorse - Spottedbear (the road that keeps going), peacefully passed away to the other side of camp at home, at age 69, a month shy of her 70th birthday during the early morning sunrise on August 30, 2020 where she was surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. She undoubtedly lived up to the Indian name given to her, she fought an extraordinarily courageous battle with cancer, giving her more time that she was expected to have. She decided to carry on with life during this time, had never wavered in her faith & was independent up until four days of her gaining her angel wings.

A direct decent of the Crow “Absaalooke’” Chief Plenty Coups on her maternal side, Peggy was born October 2, 1950, in Pryor MT, a daughter of the late Theodore Rideshorse & Madeline Comes Up.

She received her early education in Pryor, then moved to Chicago IL to attend school for accounting, where she met & married Gregory Lambert, they made their home in Manistique MI., of this marriage they had 3 daughters, Jennifer, Devona & Nicole. They eventually moved back to MT where they were avid sports competitors, winning numerous tourneys while traveling to various states, but later divorced in 1981.

She then met Melton Spotted Bear Sr. in 1985, together they had a son Melton Spotted Bear Jr, “Jr Bear” They made their home in Pryor MT., & at several horse tracks through various states during the horse racing seasons. This began her true passion of running race horses like her dad Theodore. Every season for decades they were on the road to run the horses, winning numerous horse races & futurities. She would pack a lunch; they’d load the horses & she called the family when they were on the road. If they weren’t at the horse track, they were tending to the horses daily. One of her prized horses was Corona Rojo, who provided her with many win pictures.

She was a true Bilikooshe Biaiche & was an avid beader, making numerous dance outfits for her children & grandchildren. She was a Sun Dancer, a member of the Native American Church & always practiced the traditional Crow way. In her previous years Peggy assisted, then owned the 5 Furlong Café trackside at the Metra Park fair grounds. She also worked with the US Forest Service, then worked several years with the Crow Land Management which she thoroughly enjoyed by assisting native land owners.

She also served on the local H.S. school board for several years. Peggy had a passion for cooking, every family get together was over the top, after retiring she turned her café into a catering business & traveled to prepare food for many events, always receiving compliments. Always the entrepreneur, she then started traveling with her daughter Devona’s Darling Designz craft show business, with her jewlery. Most recently her past time was to follow her sons 406 Warriors softball team, visiting about the years she spent playing the game.

Our Sister, Mother, Wife & Best Friend will be greatly missed by us forever, our camp will never be the same. She always told us things straight, was to the point when she taught us. She always put her loved ones before herself. Not a day went by when she didn’t check on her children, grand children or great grandchildren. She always loaded up her grand kids to take them swimming or whatever they asked of her. She always purchased gifts for everyone in the family & made sure she attended every school/sports event that each one had, no matter what, she was always there.

Her parents, sisters Clara Smells, Bernadine Bad Bear, nephews Timothy Smells, Nathan Old Dwarf Sonny Bad Bear nieces Jolene Smells, Cheryl Bad Bear, April Bad Bear all proceed Peggy in death.

Family includes, Lion Shows, Little Light, Big Day, Howe, Rides Horse, Not Afraid, Covers Up, Stand Over Bull, Rock Above, Dust, & Brown, as well as others. She also had numerous friends from childhood, the race track & from previous jobs, apologies, the list was too numerous to mention during this difficult time.
