Lou Holmes, 84, of Winfield, died Sept. 11, 2007, at her home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Ninnescah Cemetery, south of Udall. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service. The family will greet callers from 5 to 8.
A memorial has been established for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made
through the funeral home.
Louise was married to John Long for 49 years. She was married to Barry Holmes in 1998 until her death in 2007. She had a family in Texas that had known and loved her all her life but after Barry she totally changed, moved to Kansas and we are not even recognized in her obituary. Lou was born June 3, 1923, in Collin County, Texas, to George Edward and Ollie (Smith) Dale. She was raised in Collin County and graduated from high school in Princeton, Texas, in 1940.
In 1942, Lou began employment with the First National Bank of Dallas (now the Bank of America) where she worked in collections and bookkeeping. At the time of her retirement in 1986, she was working in the securities exchange department.
She and Barry Holmes married June 17, 1998, in Udall. The couple made their home in Collin County until October 2005 when they moved to Winfield.
Lou was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mesquite, Texas.
She loved shopping, home decorating and her pets, Amos and Kans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Idris and Geneice.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Holmes, of the home; her sons and their wives, Michael and Christine Holmes, Kansas City, Kan., Steven and Julie Holmes, Dallas, Texas, and David and Kristen Holmes, Borger, Texas; her daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Tom McElroy, Wichita, and Terri and Jeff Higdon, Winfield; a sister, Chris Umphress, Mesquite, Texas; her grandchildren and their spouses, Dan and Debbie McElroy, Kate and Cory Teubner, Cathi and Greg Wilson, Tanya and Bertrai Taylor, Peter Holmes, Robin and Mark Gansle, Luanna DeWinkler, Rod DeWinkler, Mike Holmes Jr., Fraser Holmes, Haley Holmes, Kendall Holmes, Oliver Holmes and Moriah Holmes; and 10 great-grandchildren.
