Born on November 22, 1931 in Gamaliel, Kentucky, she was the youngest daughter of Levy Turner and Blanche(Denham)Turner and grew up in the Tompkinsville, KY area. She married Thomas H. Newton Sr. on August 22, 1955 and he preceded her on November 4, 1999.
Survivors include 3 sons, Alan K.(Donna)Newton of Grand Haven, Michigan, Cary D. Newton of Greensburg, Thomas H.(Newton Jr.)Miller(wife Judy) of Manille; 1 brother, Edd Turner of Tompkinsville, Kentucky; 3 granddaughters, Kathryn Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, Cecilia Otvos- Pratt of Leander, Texas, Sarah Struck of Austin, Texas, and one grandson, Thomas C. Miller of St. Louis, Missouri; one great-granddaughter, Julia Faye Pratt of Leander, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, 4 siblings, Virgil Turner, Moline Roszell, Clarine Elkins and Ruby Stephens.
Mrs. Newton had lived in this area since 1952, and was a member of West Street United Methodist Church.
She had been a factory worker for 9 years at Overhead Door Corporation in Shelbyville, retiring in 1992. She had previously been employed with Pittsburgh Plate Glass(now Knauf Insulation)-where she met her husband-and the L&J Garment Factory in Shelbyville for several years.
Dorothy enjoyed visiting with family members, meeting new friends, playing euchre and bingo, touring the Western United States with her husband, and being "Grandma" to many of her friends' and relatives' grandchildren.
Graveside(open casket)services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9th at the Norristown Cemetery with Pastor Robert Keck officiating. The public is invited, but face masks and social distancing are required.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Norristown Cemetery Fund, in care of the funeral home.
