MOTHER ANNIE RICHARDSON’S Biography
When Mother Annie Richardson is asked how old she is, Mother Richardson loves to share her age to the exact day and months. At the time of her passing, she was 102 years, 5 months and 21 days young. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 13, 1918, Mother Richardson is the second oldest of 10 siblings (7 are deceased).
Mother came to Tacoma by way of the military where her second husband was stationed at McChord AFB. Avid church participants, they eventually joined Greater Christ Temple Apostolic Church after being “hooked” by the charismatic Bishop C.E. Montgomery and his lovely wife, Dr. Elinor Montgomery. Although her husband would later move on, Mother continued as a faithful member for more than 50 years. Mother enjoyed being the oldest member in her church while actively being involved in several church positions throughout her years of service to the Lord. She headed up the usher board department while being energetic and teaching others how to serve in the house of the Lord; she loved being a member of the adult and later on the senior choirs. Faithfully Mother refused to miss her Tuesday afternoon prayer meetings or any other church services no matter what; she enjoyed being team leader of the Ruth Circle; Mother held the position of the “meticulous” church treasurer for 43 years, never using a calculator─before “retiring” her position and proudly saying how God helped her to balance the church’s budget down to the last penny even though she only had a 6th grade education! Mother also diligently coordinated the Church monthly Communion and Feet Washing services during her time serving the Lord. She felt it was her personal duty and obligation to have all the necessary items prepared for the next services never being asked to do, Mother just did. Her unwavering God-fearing relationship with her Heavenly Father was the soul motivation for Mother’s commitment and dedication to her church.
Mother dearly enjoyed making people laugh and would tell her jokes with a straight face while expressing her feelings directly with no reservations! For having only a 6th grade education, she blessed so many people with her treasures of wisdom and great knowledge for being able to accomplish what she set out to do. She loved to cook and was frequently asked to bake her famous lemon cakes, lamb stew and cornbread.
Mother’s siblings from her father, Joseph Jackson and Lizzie, his first wife are: Armena, Asia Jane, David, Joseph, and Samuel. From Joseph Jackson and his second wife: Bertha, Louvenia, and twins Eddie and Edna.
