Kathy is survived by two daughters, Sandy Morris and Michelle Morris Brubaker, as well as Michelle’s husband Gary, and Kathy’s grandchildren, Mark, John, and Daniel Brubaker.
Kathy was born in Rockwall, Texas, to George W. and Josie Hughes, grew up in Terrell and moved to Dallas in 1935. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended SMU with a major in Spanish. She worked as a secretary for local law firms and at Sun Oil Company for 21 years until she retired to be a full time homemaker. She returned to work in 1981 at various companies for 17 years, including five years at Texas Instruments.
Aside from her faith, family was her first love and she was most proud of her children’s love and achievements in life. Travel was second, as distant shores lured her away for many trips around the world, visiting 52 countries and islands on six continents. She was an avid bridge player, loved reading, and attended water aerobics classes three to four times a week. She passed her love for the beach to her grandchildren by taking them every summer to different Texas beaches. She made friends wherever she went and they were a big part of her life. Her sunny spirit and outlook on life will be missed.
At Wilshire Baptist, she worked five years in the church library and taught at Vacation Bible School. As a member of First Baptist Church Richardson since 1981, she was a sponsor for youth mission trips and went on the San Andreas mission trip, taught Literacy, participated in the Hispanic Church and was active in the Seekers Class. She was an passionate supporter of Texas Baptist Men, an organization dedicated to front-line disaster relief globally, offering water, meals, and rebuilding after disasters. A celebration of her life will be graveside (with appropriate social distancing) at Restland Cemetery on Tuesday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m.
