Obituary of John Lee Sparks, Jr
John Lee Sparks, Jr, son of John Lee Sparks, Sr and Ella Fern (Colvin) Sparks was born in Ennis, TX on March 22, 1933 and passed away in Wichita, KS September 2, 2020 at the age of 87. John served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and used the G.I. Bill to attend flying school and began a lifelong career in corporate aviation. After retiring John always said the only time he missed flying was when he was awake.
John married Ella M. Hubbard on December 14, 1956. They shared many happy memories and enjoyed living in a number of interesting places due to his career. He was especially fond of hiking and RV travel trips to Canada and throughout the U.S. John and Ellie retired to Ellie’s home town of Smith Center, KS in 2005. John enjoyed a number of hobbies, one of which was creating museum quality ship models. In 2012 John authored a book about his flying career called “The Last Flight Plan, Destination Unknown”.
John is survived by his wife Ellie, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
