Ronald Ivan Arnold of Mitchell, South Dakota | 1955 - 2020 | Obituary

Ronald Ivan Arnold was born to Ivan and Phyllis (Dunwoody) Arnold on December 2, 1955 in Oskaloosa, IA. He passed from death into everlasting life on August 29, 2020. His “appointed time” was not ours, but God had a plan and as the events surrounding his homecoming are unveiled, we begin to see that God has been working out his purpose. Ron’s heart stopped at the 11:00 PM hour, and he breathed his next breath in the sweet fragrance of Heaven. He made it all the way home; he is in perfect rest. He will never know fear or suffer ever again.

His 12 grandchildren called him “Poppy” as did a host of other children, young and old – as he was so fondly thought of by all. His arms stretched wide, but his heart encompassed the world. His circle was never closed nor was his wallet.

There are not words to adequately depict the huge legacy of love and generosity he left behind. All we know is how vacant life seems without him.

Ron was a “family man” before and besides anything else he ever did. He loved his family, was proud of them, and always “there” for them. Heaven is more real now than ever.

Ron graduated from high school at Mt. Zion Bible School in Ava, MO in 1974. From there he worked at various places, but eventually started what would become his lifelong career, the construction of metal/steel buildings. He and his brother-in-law, Kenny Hembree, opened SilverLine Steel Buildings in the 1980’s, their work covered most of the 50 states and some overseas.

While Ron much preferred home, and it was always hard for him to say goodbye – still, his work was like “his calling” and it became such a huge avenue for ministry in more ways than one. God blessed a great number of people through him.

Ron served in other ways; on boards, as a teacher and dorm parent at MZBS, and directed Montezuma Indian School from 1991-2004. He and his family moved to Mitchell, SD in November 2004 where he has resided for the last 16 years.

He reopened his construction business with his 2 sons, Anthony and Bryan, and was planning to retire at the end of this year.

He is survived by his wife and lifelong love, Rebecca Arnold, who he was married to for 42 years; their union was blessed with 7 children, Clarissa (Samuel) Lyon of Mitchell, Anthony Ivan Arnold of Mitchell, Juliana (Bryan) Jones of Ava, MO, Ashlea (Wesley) Kline of Mitchell, Andrea Chanelle Arnold of Mitchell, Bryan David Scott (Arnold) of Mitchell, and Antonio Hernandez of Scottsdale, AZ (he was like a son); 12 grandchildren, Olivia, Donovan, Patrick, Greyson, Elliot, Kiersten, McKenna, Kailor, Kolsen, Addisen, Jaxsen, and Ellisen; mother, Phyllis Arnold of Ava, MO; sisters, Lois (Victor) Kilgore of Ava and Wanda (Dean) Greenwood of Columbia, MO; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Andrea Suzanne; father, Ivan Arnold; father-in-law, Kenneth Bryant; brother-in-law, Stephen Bryant; infant grandsons, Carlin Raphael Lyon and Kenton Ivan Jones; and several other babies we did not get to meet.

To all the host of family and friends who have reached out in love and support to us at this time, our family says “Thank You”. We are humbly grateful to each and everyone.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, September 2 at Faith Missionary Church in Mitchell with a 6:00 PM prayer service, and a visitation from 6-8:00 PM Friday, September 4th, 2020 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, MO. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 5th at Mt. Zion Auditorium in Ava. Burial will be Mt. Zion Cemetery in Ava.
