Michael Albert Toombs, 67 of Fort Payne passed away Friday. Michael was born in California on April 5, 1949, son of the late Albert and Joyce Irwin Toombs.
He was a Corporal of the U.S. Mairnes, having served in Vietnam, Okinawa and the Philippines, serving with the 1st Marine Division.
He worked as a journeyman apprentice with Chattanooga Tennessee Local #704 Ironworkers.
He worked on the Bellfonte & Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plants, as well as Plant Hammond in Rome, Ga, and projects in Augusta and Savannah, Ga.
His hobbies included quail hunting, horseback riding, trout fishing, travel, reading, camping and community services.
He was retired from the Dekalb Co. Sheriff office, serving with the Mounted Patrol and a Charter Member.
He was a member of Alhambra Shrine Temple, Past Masters of Lebanon Lodge 116, Member of the Dekalb-Jackson York Rite, Officer and Past President of Dekalb Shrine Club.
He was a Life member and past officer of VFW Post #3128 Fort Payne.
He was a member of The Fort Payne Family Worship Center.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Yvonne Davis Toombs. Brothers in law, Ray Cantrell, John Edward "Butch" Davis and wife Joni. Sisters, Niki Kelly and Tonya Kelly.
Survived by several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday from the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be in the Wesley's Chapel Cemetery with Military Rites. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 PM til 7 PM.
