Julie Womack

Julie Womack was born Nov. 21, 1957, in Tillamook, to Frank L. and Alice (Corkle) Weis and died Aug. 30, 2007, in Clatskanie, at the age of 49.

Julie attended school at West Albany High School and later at Oregon State University, where she earned her bachelor of science degree in health sciences.

Julie's professional work as an independent social work consultant was conducted throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California and Hawaii. Julie co-founded the first nursing-home-based hospice in Oregon. She founded the Oregon Long Term Care Social Work Association. The Boston Gerontological Society honored Julie for her professional contribution to the development of the Minimum Data Set used by every nursing home in this country. Julie enjoyed spending time in her garden, but her greatest joy in life was her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Joel and Alec Womack, both of Albany; her father, Frank L. Weis and his wife Margaret of Salem; three brothers, Frank R. Weis of Bend, Edward Weis of Milwaukie and Jim Weis of Folsom, Calif.; one step-brother, Gary Effenberger of Happy Valley; two sisters, Mary K. Lynch of Las Vegas, Nev., and Eileen Bidwell of Milwaukie; and one step-sister, Judy Ritchie of Santa Barbara, Calif. Julie is also survived by her companion, Don Veverka of Clatskanie.

Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Tillamook.

Julie was dedicated to improving Alzheimer's care. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, care of Waud's Funeral Home.
