"Mike Higgins, also known as “Uncle Mikie”, age 53 of Midland and Coleman County, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with his loving family by his side. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman with Seth Moore, pastor of Hord’s Creek Cowboy Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Valera Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

"He was born Michael Shawn Higgins on July 20, 1967 in Roswell, New Mexico to Donnie Higgins and Carolyn Glenn Taylor. Mike grew up in Monument, New Mexico and graduated from Hobbs High School. He then continued his education at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs and Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie. He began his career 35 years ago at Koch Specialty Services as a boilermaker, working his way up to site superintendent.

"Mike loved life and had a heart of gold, and believed strongly in sharing kindness and joy with others. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved working in the yard and working with flowers, roses being his favorite. He had an eye for detail and made everything he touched perfect. Mike loved his family deeply and held each of them close to his heart. He will be missed tremendously by his family, but they are comforted knowing that Mike is perfectly preparing a place in Heaven, where blue birds sing, and faith, hope and love will always prevail.

"Mike is joined in heaven by his grandparents, Alma and David Higgins, and Andrew and Velma Glenn.

"Those left to cherish wonderful memories are his daughter, Rachael Higgins of Rhode Island; his good friend and mother to his daughter, Caroline Green of Rhode Island; his mother, Carolyn Taylor and husband Michael of Coleman; his father, Donnie Higgins and wife Brenda of Gun Barrell City; his sister, Sherry Smith and husband Craig of Midland along with their children, Eric and Reagan Smith; two brothers, Andy Higgins and wife Amy of Ohio, along with their children, Tayler Olson and Morgan Skyler Higgins, and Justin Saxon and wife Ann of Plains, along with their children, Jaicee Sutton and husband Holden, Katie Saxon, Andie Saxon and Kinlee Saxon.

"Pallbearers will be Edgar Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, Erick Gonzalez, Carlos Lopez, Frank Lopez, and Joe Lopez.

"In honor of Mike, the family requests that you do a kind deed for someone in need, and always be kind to one another."
