After graduation from college, Dub was drafted into the army and was stationed in California. They were married in 1952 and Dub went overseas for a year. Lanona worked at Convair Aircraft Plant (Lockheed) at night until Dub returned from Korea. Both went to finish their degrees at The University of North Texas. Lanona was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma After graduation they began their 33 years of teaching in Millsap ISD.

Lanona taught Home Economics and Home and Family Living at Weatherford Junior High, Haltom High School, Watauga Jr. High and Richland High School. She retired in 1987 and she and Dub began traveling, camping and playing Senior Softball.
