Charles Theodor Fuchs was born in Schwaikheim, Germany November 8, 1864. He was apprenticed as a baker from nine years of age to sixteen years of age to his sisters husband.He was then sent to New York and worked for his Mothers Aunt. In New York he met Annie Linke, who worked as a theater seamstress marrying her April 15, 1888. Annie his wife had been born in Berlin Germany on June 24, 1866

The couple went into business as The Chelsea Creamery selling butter and eggs. They had two children at that time...Lena Mary born February 26, 1891 and Charles Theodor Jr born July 25,1892. Sometime after 1895 they moved to Milan Tennessee. Frederick jacob, born June 22, 1896 to them lived only one year. Othelia Lizette born July 10, 1898 was nicknamed Utley, a name that stuck to her for life. A fifth child born July 25, 1900 was given the name of the deceased son Frederick Jacob. The last child, Richard was born March 14, 1908.

Mr Fuchs developed malaria and his doctor suggested he find another climate. He bought a homestead of 160 acres, a cabin and new house for $4,700.In January of 1913 Charles and his brother in law Richard Linke purchased the Nobles Bakery and Meat Market.Richard Link tired of the bakery leaving it in the good hands of Charles Fuchs Sr. The Fuchs children flourished. Charles Jr went to World War 1. Daughter Lena worked as a telephone operator, Fred became the baker. Wife Annie died in 1922 from high blood pressure and strokes causing Mr Fuchs to loose interest in the bakery. The bakery at 102 South Krome Avenue is now registered as a historic building. His son Charles Jr accepting the gift of a bakery continued the tradition .In 1934 Fuchs Baking Company became known as Holsom Bakery in South Miami. That baking company is now closed and progress changed the face of the spot where all could often drive by and smell the bread.
