Howard Sumner Lewis, affectionately known as "Buzz", was born on April 13th, 1943 and departed from his loving family on August 31, 2020. He was born in Washington D.C. to the late Roscoe C. Lewis, Jr. and Lillian Smith Lewis. Buzz was pre-deceased by his brother Roscoe C. Lewis, III.

He began his school career at Mrs. Howards' Garden of Children and continued his elementary education in the Washington D.C. public schools. Buzz attended Jr. and High school at Groton School in MA where he graduated in 1961.

Buzz attended the University of Pennsylvania where he rowed crew 4 years. In 1965 he joined the Peace Corp and served in Uruguay, South America. He returned to the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in Music Theory and a minor in Business in 1967.

After a two year career in the business world he met and married the love of his life, Rebecca Lively Lewis in March of 1970. She encouraged him to follow his passion for music and become a music teacher. They began their careers together in Prince Georges County, MD in 1970.

Buzz was the "pied piper" of children's vocal music for 10 years. During that time he directed many musicals and recorded several songs with his chorus as fund raisers for the PTA. In 1980 he was selected to teach electronic and computerized music in eight Talented and Gifted elementary schools. In 1996 Buzz joined the staff of Parkdale High School to teach piano and guitar. He formed a Jazz band that became well known and performed professionally in DC and NYC. He produced several recordings with the band until all the band members graduated.

Buzz and Becky retired from Prince Georges County in 2002. During his 32 years of teaching Buzz was a professional bass player with many bands. His ability to play music from many genres was a special gift. He opened his own recording studio in 1986 and continued to enjoy playing as well as recording.

During their 50 years of marriage they lived in Baltimore MD, Columbia, MD, Annapolis, MD and Ocala, FL.

In 2003 Buzz and Becky relocated to Ocala, FL. to enjoy a new life. They traveled extensively with family and friends, to Europe, China, Japan and throughout the Caribbean.

While living in Annapolis he served as the president of the Bay Highlands Civic Association and was a member of the Maryland State retired Teachers Association. After moving to Florida he joined several clubs and organizations. He was the past president of The Cosmopolitans of Ocala, a board member of the Marion Oaks Civic Association, a member of The Birthday Club, Hand and Foot Club, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and sometimes served as assistant minister.

Buzz was well liked, respected, admired and revered by all who knew him. He had many life-long friends and family members who cherish his memory.

Buzz is survived by his loving wife Becky, his daughter Erika Boyd (Michael) his son Lee Lewis (Gail), Grandfather to Briana, Chelsea, Tyler, Erick, Michael, Sam and Marissa, and Great Grandfather to Mekhi, Lea, Jeffrey, Kaden Z. and Kayden A. He is gone but not forgotten and will remain in all our hearts forever!
