Gordon Jennings, Film Specialist, Dies at Club
Winner of Five Academy Awards Collapses on Golf Course, in Middle of Round

H. Gordon Jennings, 56, one of filmland's best known special effects men and winner of five Academy Awards, died yesterday at Lakeside Golf Club.

Jennings, who dropped his first name, Henry, in his screen credits, had been associated with Paramount Pictures many years, completing work on a picture for that studio recently.

He leaves his widow Florence, a son, Dr. John Jennings, Beverly Hills; a daughter, Mrs. Jedda Mahoney, St. Louis, and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Murch, Beverly Hills, and Miss Helen Jennings, Los Angeles.

Jennings had reached the 12th hole at the Lakeside course yesterday when he complained of feeling ill and left the game, starting back to the clubhouse, but collapsed on the 13th fairway.

His son, who had just arrived at the club for a game, was told of his father' collapse and reached his side just before he died.

Jennings was a native of Salt Lake City, but had spent most of his working life in Hollywood. He was a member of Al Malaikah Shrine Temple and of the Scottish Rite.

Funeral arrangements, in charge of Forest Lawn Cemetery, were to be completed today.
