Ruth was born on May 3, 1920 in Forrest, IL the daughter of Harry Maynard and Rosa O. Higgins Maple. She married George C. Carlton in 1938 in Indiana; he preceded her in death on November 23, 1996.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Carlton owned and operated the Dairy Cream and The Campus Restaurant in Virden for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, William E. Hunter in December 2003; brother, Maynard Maple; and sister, Glenna McClery.
She is survived by two daughters: Ruth Ann (husband, Donald) Cox and Rosemary Hunter both of Springfield; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three step great grandchildlren; one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield on Friday, October 21, 2005 with Dr. Joseph H. Eby officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery in Virden.
