Preston Turner
Preston Green Turner, 82, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at his home in Tupelo after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Lee County, he was born May 4, 1919, in Saltillo to the late Elbert Lee and Minnie Flanagin Turner. He was an employee of Day-Brite Lighting Co. in Tupelo, retiring after more than 20 years. He was a longtime member of East Main Church of Christ. He was associated with Alcoholics Anonymous and had celebrated more than 27 years of sobriety. He loved his grandchildren, who called him Papaw, and enjoyed gardening, antique picking, trading knives and watching boxing on television.
Services were Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Gary Williams and Darrell Beard officiating. Burial was in Priceville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 62 1/2 years, Mary Lou Cayson Turner of Tupelo; one daughter, Nona Sue Scott, and her husband, Lyndol, of Clarksburg, Tenn.; one son, Roy A. Turner, and his wife, Debbie, of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Glenda Scott, Amanda Bibighaus and her husband, Alexander Bibighaus IV, Alison Tucker and her husband, Michael, Tanya Scott and Katie Turner.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Ann Turner; and eight brothers and sisters, Clyde, Leonard, Cariel, Bonnie, Delbert and Bennie Turner, Nellie Earnest and Lois Edwards.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Turner, Bonnie Charles Turner, Billy Turner, Michael Tucker, John Mobley and Vernon Arnold.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Webb and Alexander Bibighaus IV.
