Mrs. Louarkie Hollingsworth (Hardwick) Lewis was born at Galivants Ferry, S.C., July 3, 1831. In girlhood she joined the Methodist church and lived a faithful Christian life to the end. In 1854 she was married to Mr. Isaac T. Lewis of the same community and shortly after moved to Conway S.C., where she continued to reside the remainder of her life. Ten children were born to them, five of whom still live: Mrs. Sara A. Dusenbury, Thomas S. Lewis, Mrs. Julia R. Sessions, Fred B. Lewis of Conway; and Mrs. Mary A. Dorman of Adrian, S. C. The children who are dead are: George W. Brookman, Minnie Hattie, and Lillie G. Mrs. Lewis has seen 45 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren, a total of 94 descendants. Mr. Lewis passed away in 1882. For the past two or three years Mrs. Lewis had been quite feeble. She went quietly to her heavenly home on May 10, 1913 at the home of her son, Mr. Fred B. Lewis at Conway. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Methodist Church yard at Conway, the writer conducting the funeral exercises.
