Word has been received of the death of Mary A. Beatty Houpt, 85, of Mount Union, formerly of Chambersburg, who died at 7 A.M., Monday, July 7, 1997 in the home of her son, Donald Beatty of Mount Union with who she resided for the last six years, She had been in failing health.
Born 10 May, 1912 in Germany Valley, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Annabelle Reed Shields.
Her first husband, Clarence Beatty died in 1991. Her second husband, Roy Houpt, died in 1996.
She was a Protestant and retired from South Mountain Geriatric Center in 1975 after 16 years of service.
In addition to her son, surviving are three daughters, Barbara Forshey of Mount Union; Eleanor Harshbarger of Mattawana and Thelma Goshorn of West Palm Beach, FL.; a son, Samuel Beatty of St. Thomas; 27 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Shields of Huntingdon.
In addition to her husbands, a great-grandson, fours sisters and six brothers preceded her in death.
Service will be private and at the convenience of the family.
