Joseph T. Giunta Sr., 81, of Bloomsburg, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007 at Grandview Home Health under the care of Columbia-Montour Hospice, Danville.
Born in Philadelphia on Sept. 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Ernestus and Maria (Santoro) Giunta. He attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and was a former member of Irem Shrine Center, Dallas. He was a member of Washington Lodge 265 F&AM, Bloomsburg, and Valley of Bloomsburg Scottish Rite Consistory. He was preceded in death by brother Raymond Gionta; sisters Lena Fornito and Marie Amato.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Rosaire Ryan Giunta, Bloomsburg; daughters: Rosaire Hoffman and husband Don, Lincoln, Mont., Mary Trometter and her husband, Jeff, Williamsport; sons: Joseph Gionta and his wife, Lynn, Mountain Top, Thomas Giunta and wife, Sandy, West Pittston; grandchildren: Jennifer Pyle, Monica Pimely, Jessica, Stephanie and Alex Gionta, Phillip and Vincent Trometter, Abby and Anthony Giunta; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Justin Pimely; four sisters and one brother; several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral will be from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Mr. Thomas M. Cesarini officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.
