Former Canfield Woman Dies in California
"Relatives here received word Wednesday morning of the death of Mrs. Minnie Ewing Chidester, 94, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. J. Eschliman, in Castaic, Calif. Born in Austintown township, October 29, 1867, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Ewing, and lived in the Canfield area until going to California 14 years ago to make her home with her daughter. Her husband, Munson B. Chidester, and a daughter, Mrs. Ruby May, preceded her in death. Besides Mrs. Eschliman she leaves four grand-children. Waldo Ewing of Canfield Twp., is a nephew. Funeral services will be held Friday in Castaic."
Comment: Valorus and Priscilla A. Dean Chidester had twin sons, Mason Dean Chidester and Munson Buel Chidester, who were born on 28 Mar 1864. Mason first married Minnie Ellen Ewing on 20 Sep 1888 and then he died on 9 May 1891 at the age of 27y 1m 12d. His twin brother, Munson, then married Minnie on 10 May 1894. Minnie Ewing Chidester died in California on 20 Dec 1961 at 94y 1m 22d

Mason and Minnie Ewing Chidester had a daughter, Ruby Chidester b. 14 Aug 1889 d. 1 Dec 1947 at 58y 3m 18d in Austintown. She married Harry S. May on 31 Aug 1915. They had three daughters, Eleanor Marguerite (Benjamin Franklin Wilson); Ruth Isabel (John Monroe Mallery); Doris Elizabeth (Robert Edward Beardsley); and one son, Harry Kenneth May (Mary Heck). It is interesting to note that despite being born blind, two of their daughters became quite talented – academically and musically.
Munson and Minnie Ewing Chidester also had a daughter, Myrtle Melissa Chidester b. 20 May 1895 and d. 3 Sep 1994 at 99y 3m 14d. She married Samuel Jonas Eschliman on 27 Mar 1926.
