He was born July 29, 1942, in Elwood, to Frank and Kathleen (Willshire) McCorkle. Jim attended Willkie High School and later served in the U.S. Army.
Jim married Judith A. Hoover on May 29, 1971, and she passed away in 2004. Jim retired as a tool and die maker in 1998 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 27 years.
He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662; an avid classic car enthusiast; restored classic cars; and enjoyed NHRA and NASCAR racing. He was a member of Vintage Rollers Car Club and the Frankton American Legion; and especially enjoyed watching Frankton sports teams.
The family would like to thank Mary of Ascension Hospice and Jim's daily caretaker, Darci French, for the care they provided to Jim.
Jim's family includes three children, James "Brian" (Carrie) McCorkle, Jason (Carrie) McCorkle, and Tara McCorkle; seven grandchildren; and half brother, Seth (Marsha) McCorkle.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife; and brother, Steve McCorkle.
Jim's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jerry Young officiating. Burial will follow in K of P/IOOF Cemetery in Frankton with military honors by the Army and Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
