Lorene was born in Sacramento March 19, 1926 and came home to Loomis where she spent most of her life. She passed away Saturday August 22, 2020 at her home.
She grew up on the family fruit orchard, Valley Vista, with her brothers Ed and Carrol. Her mother Alma was Finnish and her father Alfred was Danish. She was proud of her Scandinavian heritage, belonging to the Finlandia Club. She graduated from Placer High School in Auburn in 1943. For many years she met with a group of her classmates regularly and enjoyed class reunions.
Lorene married Lloyd Owen on Easter Sunday April 19, 1949 in the Pioneer Methodist Church in Sacramento. They had one son David born in 1955. The union lasted 47 years until Lloyd passed away in 1996.
She worked for the Loomis Fruit Growers Association for many years - often answering the telephone for the Loomis Chamber of Commerce and the Loomis Volunteer Fire District for which she was recognized for her service.
Lorene was a lifelong member of many organizations, including the American Legion Auxiliary - joining as a teenager as her father had served in WWI, the Loomis Basin Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Loomis Historical Society where she was a valued resource. She spent many happy hours at the Main Drug Store in Loomis as a regular at the soda fountain with a group of friends. People would often stop in and ask about the town's history and she was always willing to share a story and try to figure out who they were related to.
She was most proud of her 76 year membership in the Order of the Eastern Star Penrhyn Chapter #159 where she had many cherished friends and served in various offices. She was Worthy Matron four times, serving twice with her husband Lloyd as Worthy Patron in 1949 and 1989, and in 1984 and 1997. She was Deputy Grand Matron in 1980.
She and Lloyd became active supporters of the Del Oro High School Band when their son joined the band in 1969. They were honored as Grand Marshalls of the Band Spectacular Parade in 1984.
She was very proud of her granddaughters Loralyn and Deanna and their fruit label murals that are displayed in Loomis.
She leaves behind her son David (Susan), granddaughters Loralyn (James) and Deanna, her brother Paul "Carrol" Larsen (Patty), many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
