George M. Andrews, 76, former Rockdale man, died at 3 p.m. Saturday at Houston where he had live the past 14 years.
Funeral Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Phillips & Luckey Chapel, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. H. M. Bowley of Cameron and the Rev. Floyd Durham of Houston officiated.
Mr. Andrews was born May 6, 1889 in Lee County, just south of Rockdale, and he spent most of his life in and around Rockdale. His parents were the late Jim and Virginia Smith Andrews.
On Jan. 14, 1917, Mr. Andrews and Miss Mattie Pansy Clark were married in Rockdale. One son, George Newton, died in 1958.
Surviving besides the wife, of Houston, is a daughter, Mrs. Eva Downing of Houston; a son, James C. Andrews of Angleton; two foster sons, Rick Daniel and Bubba Smiley of Houston; two brothers, Emmett Andrews of San Gabriel and Walker Andrews of Kerrville. There are also eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wallace Brooks, Bill Green, Sonny Hirt, Willie Obier, Garland Caffey and Clint Henry.
