Sept. 29, 1917-Mar. 14,2018
San Jose
Eileen Gertrude Thunder Allen passed to heaven Mar.14th at age 100. She was born in Berkeley, CA Sept 29th 1917 to Gertrude Buckley Thunder and James A. Thunder. She attended Sacred Heart Convent, and earned her BA in English Literature, from Barat College, Lake Forest, IL. In Chicago, she met Richard, her husband of 62 years until his passing in 2003. Together they had a family of 6 sons and 2 daughters. She passed in her home of 53 years with her family by her side.
Though her life's work was their 8 children, she grew in her social thought, volunteered for the less fortunate and was very involved in her parish church.
Eileen was an original California girl, and proud of her family's history. Her Grandfather sailed from Ireland in 1860 and established a longtime medical practice in SF. Eileen recalled the gaslighters at twilight, and the Bay before the Bridges. She was very active and always enjoyed the outdoors and beauty of the Bay.
We will remember her for many more things; especially her devotional life, her devotion to us, her gentleness, and how she lit up when she saw our Dad. She set the bar for love.
Her family includes; Richard, Mary, Michael, Mark (dec.), Paul, Gregory, Christopher, Monica. The next generations include 16 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
A service for Eileen's friends and family will be held at the Church of Santa Theresa, 794 Calero Ave, San Jose on April 14th at 3pm.
Donations may be forwarded to Martha's Kitchen, 311 Willow St. San Jose.
