On February 17, 1944, Larry Paul Burke was born to Flora Belle and Louis Burke in Houston Texas, he was their only son. Flora later married Deotis Jones who became a loving stepdad to Larry. Born into Catholicism, Larry accepted Christianity at an early age, Larry's parents moved to southern California where he attended school at Compton senior high, Larry was on the track team, he loved journalism and attended St. Albert the Great Catholic Church regularly.

After graduating high school, in May of 1965 Larry joined the United States Army where he served two years to May of 1967, serving in Vietnam during the most epoch times of the Vietnam war. He received an honorable discharge and medals with a final ranking of Sergeant E5 specialist.
Larry continued his education attending Compton College graduating with an associate in arts degree in 1968, then he furthered his education attending Cal State LA where he received his bachelor of arts degree in journalism in 1972, prior to that time, he met Anita Von Lewis and her son Samuel, and love grew strong between them and they were engaged in July 1971 then married in September that same year. Larry was an excellent provider, a loving husband to Anita and loving dad to Samuel. In 1991, their marriage ended amicably in divorce, he remained a loving dad to Samuel.
During Larry's professional career, he held 5 job titles at once, he was an insurance agent, a real estate agent, a broker, a loan officer and a tax preparer, and was licensed and certified in each one. Larry loved music, and love to dance, classic R&B Motown sound and disco was his favorite, Larry also loved sports and favored the local LA teams and had played basketball every weekend at the local park.
When Larry reached his retirement years, he enjoyed life, traveled and often dated, and being a caregiver to his aging mother up until he became ill and on August 11, 2020 God sent his angels down and called Larry home. He is survived by his mom, Flora Belle; his son, Samuel; his uncle, Lionel Alex (Laura); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his stepdad, Deotis Jones; grandparents, Lionel N. Alex and Clemmie Mouton,;and his ex-wife, Anita Burke.
