Jacqueline L. Backus, 59, of Oregon, passed away Friday, April 18, 2008, at Bay Park Community Hospital. Jackie was born in Toledo, Ohio April 25, 1948, to John "Jack" and Frances (Trudell) Middaugh. She was a graduate of Lake High School. Jackie had worked for the former Mel Berman's Restaurant for many years and it was there that she met the love of her life and husband of 30 years, Walter A. Backus. They married on Valentine's Day in 1975 and spent every available minute with each other. Walter preceded her in death in 2005. Jackie enjoyed playing bingo, cards and she was also a roller skating gold medalist, skating at the Fun Spot Roller Skating Rink under the direction of Al Kish and Peggy Yamber. Jackie is survived by her mother, Frances Middaugh; her loving daughter, Shanda Backus; stepsons, Ric (Lynn), Chris (Julie), Greg (Jenna), Keith (Kelly) Backus; stepdaughter, Deneen Backus Parker; halfbrother, John "Johnny" (Michelle) Middaugh; stepbrothers, David (Cindy), Craig (Karen), Kerry (Pam) Tiddrick; 14 stepgrandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren; stepmother, Ruby Middaugh. Jackie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Kristine Middaugh. Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Monday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and where her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kurt Tomilson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
