He was married at Rudolstadt on August 6, 1825 to Prinzessin Karoline von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, with whom he had two daughters. Following her death, he was married morganatically on October 4, 1831 to Therese Emma von Erdmannsdorff, who was created Gräfin von Raina, with whom he had seven children.
