Mary was the first child of Ann Nancy Commons and John Dwyer of Dundrum, County Tipperary, Ireland. Her father had been in the Irish Militia under the command of Viscount Hawarden from 1808-1815 about the time of her parents marriage. Her father was then a steward in the employ of the Viscount until about 1831 when John Dwyer emigrated his family to Ontario, Canada where they settled in Downeyville, a small farming community in Emily Township, VIctoria County, Ontario. At that time the closest Catholic church was the Purification of our Blessed Virgin Mary near Lindsay in neighboring Ops Township. It is most probable that is where she met Benjamin Stacy, a contemporary of her father. No record is available at this time of their marriage, but it must have been about 1838 as their first child, William Dwyer Stacy was born in 1839. Benjamin and Mary were to have two more children before moving their young family to Emmet Township, in Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA during 1849 where records show they bought a sizable farm. The family continued to grow until sometime after the birth of their son Joseph as Mary died within months of his birth at the age of 41 years.

(son who's resting place is not know - Joseph J Stacy 1855-19??)
