Casey came into my life in 2014, when I saw him walking alone on the side of a busy road. I picked him up and brought him home. He was immediately accepted by the two dogs I already had but he stood his ground and fit in quite well. I put up flyers in the area I found him and got no hits.
Casey and I hit it off very well he was small about 16 lbs a mix of Dachshund and something else, and although he was small he was not a lap dog, he was very independent. He loved to roam and I felt maybe this is why I found him lost on the road. Casey became my little buddy and we traveled all over the US and some of Canada too...he love to explore new areas and he was a good travel dog.
I guessed his age to be about 16 this year, 2020. He had slowed considerably in 2019 and he was mostly deaf, and had very poor vision, he had lost several teeth and he was no longer sure footed and moved around pretty slow. He was able to go in and out and explore the yard, he ate all his meals and was a happy go lucky boy and spent most of his time sleeping in his favorite doggie bed.
He had a seizure around the first of April and it scared me, but I knew at his age, there was little to be done. I researched it and most probably it was a brain tumor...It was a week later when he had the 2nd one and another week a 3rd, the 4th and then they came each night at about the same time...it was just too much as it nearly killed him..so on the morning of the 17th I took him down to the vet.
They agreed at his age, there was little to be done, and no reason to put him through tests and I said then I want his suffering to end...He died in my arms while I cried my heart out...
NOT one day goes by that I don't walk out to stand my his grave and Miss him and cry...it's been so hard. I have lost many pets but this one has been the hardest.
"Casey I can't tell you how I loved you and you will always be my Little Buddy."
