Gene Collins Jewell, Hadley (Sandy Creek Twp.) passed away early Sunday evening, August 2, 2020 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side. He was 84.

Gene was born in Meadville on August 1, 1936 a son of the late Harry C. and Florence (Johnson) Jewell, Sr. he was a 1956 graduate of the Cochranton High School and went on to serve with the US Army from 1958 – 1960. On October 17, 1957 he married the former Janet M. Orr who survives.

Mr. Jewell had been employed at the Hodge Foundry, Greenville from which he had retired in 2003. He also had worked at Wards restaurant, Cochranton as a bar server, Dunns, Cochranton and Kebert's, Meadville. He was a scoutmaster for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scout troop 78 and had served on their respective boards. He was a member of the Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward M. Jewell and his wife Molly and Robert W. Jewell and his wife Barb; a sister, Sue Emert; two brothers, Frank Jewell and his wife Dee and Harry Jewell and his wife Caryl; 5 grandchildren, Amanda B. Jewell Turner, Krystal M. Jewell Hunsley, Paul E. Jewell, Sierra K. Jewell and Kayla N. Jewell and a great granddaughter, Zoey Hunsley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; and 5 siblings, Patty Groger, Beth Jewell, John Jewell, Don Jewell and David Jewell.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville, with Rev. Janice Good, pastor of the Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church officiating. Mr. Jewell will be laid to rest with military honors at the Hadley Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm
