In almost every family, there is a certain man who wears the title of "patriarch." They all have one thing in common; they are the leaders of the family and it is their job to teach through their words and actions the great wisdom and knowledge they have gained along their lengthy life's journey. And for one family in particular, Richard Lawson was the patriarch and he wore this title with grace. He lived his life as an example for all to live by.

Dick was born on July 25, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Fraser; he was the son of the late Kenneth and Henrietta (Toland) Lawson. He was a 1946 Fraser High School graduate. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served our country honorably during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife on September 15, 1951 in St. Peter Catholic Church of Mt. Clemens. The couple was blessed with six wonderful children of whom they loved and cherished. Dick retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1988 after over 30 years of dedicated service. He was a proud lifelong member of the American Legion Post 4; where he was very active and was a member of the ritual team for many years. You could often catch Dick having a nice cold Bud Light bottle of beer or outside in the backyard woodworking. He will always be known for his generosity and his smile. Dick was always there whenever anyone was in need; for a shoulder to lean on or just for words of advice. He will be greatly missed and his light will continue to glow in or hearts forever.

Dick is the devoted husband of the late Emma; dearest father of Laura (Gerry) Fournier, Christine (Chris) Murphy, Debra (Bryan) Plotkowski, Kevin (Connie) Lawson and the late Susan (Joseph) Dunsmore Kimberly Allor; father-in-law of Jeff Allor; cherished grandfather, Jacqueline, Matt, Jeffrey, Lauren, Amanda, Daren, Lisa, Kyle, Keith, Frank, John, Ryan, David, Jennifer, Jon, Cindy, Tony, Emily, Richard, Kevin, Leah, Andy, Alyssa, Patrick and the late Keith ; dear great grandfather of Jacob, Mitchell, Andrew, Emma, Chase, Mackenzie, Abigail, Nonie, Evelyn, Nick, D.J., Briella and Kayla; dearest brother of Sue (Rick) Mom and the late Tony (Sally Ann), Jesse, Willard and Jeanette Lawson ; loving brother-in-law of William (Edwina) Alexander, Christine (Mike) Vernier and LuAnn Alexander; and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Tuesday from 3pm - 8pm. Full Military Honors and burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery at 11am. Luncheon will follow at American Legion Post 4. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to the American Legion, 401 N Groesbeck Hwy, Mt Clemens, MI 48043 in Dick's honor. Share memories at www.faulmnnwalsh.com
