Rebecca Bevacqua of Moultrie, Ga., died at home Saturday, Jan. 20, following a lengthy, courageous battle against cancer. Born in Warrenton, N.C., in 1950, she was the daughter of the late Edward Riggan and Dorothy Riggan. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she taught high-school English for two years before returning to Chapel Hill, N.C., to obtain a law degree. She served as an assistant attorney general with the North Carolina Department of Justice for five years before moving to Moultrie in 1981. There she taught English in the Colquitt County School System for 17 years. Survivors include daughters Brett of Chicago and Natalie of Washington, D.C.; mother Dorothy Riggan of Raleigh, N.C.; sister Margaret Light and husband Art of Oakton, Va.; brother William Riggan and wife Katie Pursley of Norman; and numerous other family members, friends and former students in Georgia and North Carolina.
