Charles "Dixie" Shelby was born on September 2, 1942 in Savannah, Tennessee, the son of the late Columbus Brownloe and Dorothy Faye Love Shelby. On April 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Brenda Hammock, who survives.

Mr. Shelby honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his time in the military, he worked as a towboat deckhand, a clerk at Savannah 64 Liquors, and as a heavy equipment operator for Morrison Knudson Construction Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Savannah, Tennessee and loved to hunt and fish. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Charles "Dixie" Shelby departed this life on August 23, 2020 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Brenda Shelby of Savannah, Tennessee; daughters, Debbie Lynn Shelby of Bartlett, Tennessee and Sammy Shelby of Savannah, Tennessee; son, Randall Felker of LaFayette, Georgia; sisters, Nancy Godwin and Beverly Dickerson, both of Savannah, Tennessee and Judy Griggs of Waynesboro, Tennessee; grandchildren, Whitney Shelby, Brittany Shelby, Britney Felker, and Bryson Felker; and great grandchildren, Elijah Mason Clevenger and Dallas Mark Hill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Tammy Elaine Shelby and Haley Marie Felker; and brothers, Jimmy Hollis Shelby, Herman Roger Shelby, and Jerry Mac "Dean" Shelby.
