Edward A. Bartlett, 53, Montgomery Schools Aide
Edward A. Bartlett, 53. recently appointed director of school personnel for Montgomery County, died last night of a heart attack.
He was stricken at his home, 8606 Jefferson street, Bethesda, and died shortly after in Suburban Hospital.
Appointed by the county board of education to the administrative post in December, Mr. Bartlett took over his duties on February 2. He replaced William G. Pyles, former principal of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, who died of a heart attack on October 8, while attending a principals' meeting In Baltimore.
Before being named director of personnel. Mr. Bartlett was principal of Northwood High School.
A native of Manchester. N. H.. he was educated at Boston, Harvard and George Washington Universities and began his teaching career in 1928 in Maine.
During World War II he served in Africa and Italy with the 15th Air Force as a lieutenant colonel attached to air intelligence.
He joined the Montgomery County schools in 1954 as principal of Leland Junior High School. Two years later he was named principal of Northwood.
Mr. Bartlett leaves his wife, Mrs. Maguerite Bartlett, and a daughter, Ann Elizabeth, 5.

Pumphrey, Bethesda, Md., where services will be held Friday, March 18, at 11 a.m. Interment Parklawn Cemetery.
