He was born on December 31, 1939, to the late Gary Wilson Hodges and Lois Bentley. He was raised by his loving grandparents Gary and Maggie Hodges. He graduated from St Pauls High and received a ministry degree from Liberty College in Lynchburg, VA.
He began his working career during high school at the St. Pauls Theater. Over the years he worked in funeral service, insurance and the cotton mill. He saw the country during his 25 years of driving for Greyhound and as a truck driver. Gerald ended his career as owner of Tri-State Charters with his wife.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Harriett Lewis Tyner Hodges, his beloved wife of 55 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Sherry McGuirt (Joe) and Tammy Chavis (Ron); a son Darryl Hodges; two step-daughters Vicki Parker and Paula Edwards, and stepson, Clyde Tyner, Jr.; granddaughters, Cherre Trammell, Malerie McGuirt, Stefanie Floyd, Kristian Longshore; grandsons Coty Kitchens, Dalton McGuirt and Randall McGuirt; step-grandsons Blake Tyner, David McDuffie, Clyde Tyner, III, Jereiki Edwards and Shane Edwards and step-granddaughter Teresa Tyner Romua.; as well as 8 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great grandchildren. His step-son Archie Tyner predeceased him.
Gerald had a deep faith and was always active in church from a young age attending with his grandparents. He loved raising his voice to the Lord in praise.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 1pm at Calvary Cornerstone Holiness Church, 337 South Elizabeth Street, St Pauls, NC. The funeral will be at 2pm followed by burial at Oakridge Cemetery.
