Mary Elizabeth Sellers, 96, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at St. Joseph's Home. Mary was born on November 29, 1924, in Springfield, the daughter of James M. and Elizabeth (Stout) Fitzgerald. She married Harold Lee Sellers on September 10, 1949 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1989.

She graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield College in Illinois, St. Francis School of Nursing in Evanston, and received a B.S.N. degree from Loyola University in Chicago. Mary was a registered nurse serving in many different roles at St. John's Hospital, Memorial Medical Center, for the State of Illinois, and was also a visiting nurse.

Mary was active in many community organizations including St. John's Good Samaritans, the Mary Bryant Association, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and on the Visiting Nurses Board.

She had deep faith and was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Altar and Rosary Society. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Jane Culp; brother, James M. Fitzgerald, Jr.; and niece, Mary Ko.

Mary is survived by her four daughters; six grandsons; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren.

Private family services held at Blessed Sacrament Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
