Giles Kelley was born in 1773 in Brunswick County VA. His sons William and Elijah were born in Jackson County TN. In 1804 the family went from Tennessee to Saint Clair (now Madison) County IL and settled in the Jarvis Township. The family left Illinois for Texas but became water-bound at Wolf Creek, Pike County, Arkansas, and settle there - this was in 1815. The first sermon ever preached in Pike County was by Giles Kelley, who was a Baptist minister. Giles and his son William and wife Rebecca are buried in the Kelley Family Cemetery -Curtis Dowdle Land on Highway 19 near Delight AR. His son Elijah and his wife Elizabeth are buried in the Kelley Family Cemetery-James Lee Land, also identified as on Highway 19 near Delight AR but not in close proximity to the Curtis Dowdle Land. All graves are identified on Find A Grave as being in the Old Kelley Farm Cemetery.
