John William "Bill" Franks, 82 of Anderson, SC passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at his home.
Born November 15, 1935 in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late John Kinsland Franks and Hattie Cain Franks. He was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother. He retired with 20 years of service as Master Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy with Distinctions. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Naval Commendation Medal. He served abroad on the USS Enterprise, the USS Kittyhawk and the USS Forrestal. He loved nature, the ocean, gardening and music.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Carol White Franks; children, William Franks (Joe), Jan Ott (Lee), Lisa Wurzer (David) and Greg Franks; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The memorial service with military honors will be at 3:30 pm Saturday, August 11, 2018 in the chapel at The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Joyce Hendry officiating.

Born November 15, 1935 in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late John Kinsland Franks and Hattie Cain Franks. He was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother. He retired with 20 years of service as Master Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy with Distinctions. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Naval Commendation Medal. He served abroad on the USS Enterprise, the USS Kittyhawk and the USS Forrestal. He loved nature, the ocean, gardening and music.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Carol White Franks; children, William Franks (Joe), Jan Ott (Lee), Lisa Wurzer (David) and Greg Franks; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The memorial service with military honors will be at 3:30 pm Saturday, August 11, 2018 in the chapel at The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Joyce Hendry officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
