BIG STONE GAP, VA - Lawrence A. Baker, 72, entered into eternity Tuesday March 3, 2020 from his residence after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Lawrence was of the Baptist faith, he attended Cedar Ridge Baptist Church until he was physically unable to do so. He was a former resident of Jenkins, KY. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Lawrence was

the former maintenance superintendent at the Elkhorn Country Club Golf Course at Jenkins, KY for approximately 20 years.

He loved his job and believed in providing for his family. Lawrence enjoyed hunting, horses, farming (especially caring

for his chickens), racing cars, and watching NASCAR races. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. But his greatest joy

was spending time with his family.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Crockett and Delphia (Anderson) Baker; his sisters Alpha Bartley, Evalena

Johnson, Alice Baker, Alta Baker and Alma Baker; and his Brothers, Rollie Curtis Baker, Lee Baker and James Baker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Betty (Kelly) Baker-Big Stone Gap, VA; his daughters Penelope Lane Baker Hays and husband Josh-Lawrenceburg, KY and Leslie Lynn Baker and husband Jeff Smith-Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Brookelyn Hays, Zoie Hays, Mackenzie Baker and Bryant Smith; great- grand- daughter Leighan Christine Baker; sister Edna Mae Baker- Hindman, KY; brothers, John Baker-Mims, FL, Leonard Baker- Providence, RI and Sylvan Baker Shepherdsville, KY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; a special friend Jack Chandler and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday March 5, 2020 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Dolph Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of services.

Burial will follow in the Rob Ratliff Cemetery on Elkhorn Creek in Shelby Gap, KY where Jeff Smith, Josh Hays, Clay Barker, Carlos ( Karo) Sluss, better known as “Little Brother” and Carlos Bush and Keith Bevins will serve will as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Valley Fire Department with a special thank you to Crystal Stidham ,better known as “Little Sister.”
