Sherry Petty, beloved wife, mother and grandmother slipped peacefully from the chains of this world, meeting her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a shout of praise on August 19, 2020.

Born in Perryville, Missouri as the youngest of three children to George and Madaline Hand, she learned the value of hard work, honesty, and a firm foundation in the teachings of The Bible. She would often speak of the importance of the foundational life lessons imparted to her at a young age on Rolling Acres Dairy Farm by the parents she adored and doted upon throughout their entire lives. She carried and displayed across her life one of the most sacred values learned; the fortune that exists in unconditional love, watching her parent’s marriage of over 70 years and their unyielding devotion and dependence on each other. This was a point of pride and honor she held very near to her heart and exhibited to so many people throughout her entire life.

Sherry lived her life with love, kindness, the empathy of the gospel toward her fellow man, and an absolute steadfastness to be marveled at. Her unwavering nature in both her business and personal life, along with a dedication to the task at hand took her far from the life of a small farm girl in Perryville to owning many successful businesses throughout her life. She ran her businesses with the same principles and loyalty to her valued employees as she had to her family. She was a woman of dignity, honor and above all class. As she would say “You tell the truth and do what’s right.”

Her firm belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ allowed her to navigate the many trials and tribulations that come with even the best lived of earthly lives. She set a daily example with the significance of integrity and strength. Her love for her children and grandchildren was boundless and guided with the same principles learned on that small patch of farmland.

She took joy in the simple things life offered; family, fellowship and quiet solitude with her thoughts. She passed many hours teaching and playing both chess and Scrabble, and more than a few times left casinos shaking their heads and counting their losses on a quick trip to Biloxi for a little blackjack.

She left a message in the example of her life that the right and honorable way to do things will always be the right and honorable way no matter how the world changes around you.
Her spirit will be greatly missed but her example will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents George S. and Madaline Hand, and son Kevin Kiefer.
She is survived by her husband Jimmy R. Petty Jr., children Keith Kiefer (Suzanne), Tina Bruce, Joshua Petty (Tricia), Amy Petty, Cindy Wolf (Karl), Steven Burns, Suzanne Tinti (Scott), and Kristina Mantych (Tim). Grandchildren Joel Bruce (Andrea), Kevin Bruce, Lydia Grace Petty and Emma Kate Petty. She is also survived by siblings George Hand Jr. (Judith) and family, Dolores Frazer and family along with a very special niece in name but daughter in heart Janice Gordon.

The family would like to thank many people who aided in her comfort and care in the preceding years, among them Chuck Wilder, Richard and Johnny Brannon and many other loved and valued employees and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Kent-Forest Lawn Cemetery, Monday August 24th @ 10 A.M.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in her name to Covenant Christian School in Panama City, Florida to further its mission of molding young minds in the sculpture of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Covenant Christian School 2350 Frankford Ave, Panama City, FL 32405
