Jimmie Gray Baker, Sr., "Mighty Mouse", age 84, passed away peacefully at Rex Hospital on August 15, 2020 after a rapid decline in his health following a stroke from his heart valve replacement surgery on June 13th.
Jimmie has felt so loved by his family and friends, through their love and prayers. He was a loving and devoted daddy, granddad, loyal brother, uncle and was a friend to everyone he met.
He was born at home on April 25, 1936 to the late Raymond and Daisy Baker in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Due to Covid-19 CDC regulations limited restrictions, the family wishes to give anyone the opportunity to see daddy and pay their respects at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. There will be a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina on August 18, 2020 at 2:30 pm.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Eloise Evans Baker Cade; his second ex-wife, Ann Senter Baker; daughter, Nancy Baker Ransom; brother, Garland Baker; daughter in law, Cindy Coates Baker; and his most beloved fur baby Toby Baker.
Jimmie was a tobacco farmer. After leaving full time farming, he became the store owner of Evan's Grocery and a Fuquay-Varina police officer. His most favorite pastime was going to yard sales, estate auctions, and liquidation sales. He looked so forward to going to the Raleigh Flea Market every weekend to resale his treasures. He loved to wheel and deal. He loved seeing his repeat customers and meeting new ones.
Jimmie loved his community and helping others. He was a volunteer firefighter with FVFD. Jimmie was one of many that helped get the Fuquay Rescue Squad started, along with Jimmy Powell went and picked up the very first ambulance. He loved to plant a garden, but giving the harvest away was his biggest joy.
Back in the day, Jimmie could be found fishing at Kennels Beach but always, from October to January 1, you would find him in the woods deer hunting with his dogs. He loved deep-sea fishing too. Mostly he loved cooking what he caught and sharing with his friends that he fished with. He spent his life hunting deer with his Walker hounds. He always had many to hunt with that is where his name became "Mighty Mouse ". He was looking so forward to going hunting in October. He just told his son, J.G., “go ahead get a dog box and put on his truck… I am ready to go hunting and hear those babies run, best sound to my ears!”
Jimmie loved his family, cooking, watching old westerns, sports games, gardening, and feeding his many deer that wondered into his yard. He especially loved it when the Dodgers, Panthers or Redskins won! He was a gentle man that spoke loudly through his actions, he met people where they were at. He never met a stranger. His example of love and service has given his family a lasting legacy.
He is survived by his most loving son, Jimmie Gray Baker, Jr. "J.G." and wife Michaela Dawn of Holly Springs; (4) Grandchildren; Josh Baker (Heather); Tristan Moorer (Jordan); Candy Sandy all of Fuquay-Varina; Randy Ludlum of Raleigh. (7) Great-Grandchildren; Riley, Peyton, Natalie, Hailey, Abby, Noah and Mason; (1) Great-Great Grandson, Aiden; (3) Sisters; Dorothy Burns; Shirley Wheeler; Judy Dean (Ronnie); Step-children, Stacey Page (Kevin) of Angier; Conrad Terrell (Teresa) of Smithfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
