Mr. Aten was born July 25, 1925, at Lamesa, Texas. He moved to the Pineville area in 1962. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Lamesa. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He married Virginia Phillips on July 10, 1943, at Lamesa. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Tex Aten, Rogers, Ark., and J.L. Aten, Bentonville, Ark.; two daughters, Debbie Cable, Joplin, and Sharon Mitchell, Shell Knob; a brother, Neal Aten, Seminole, Texas; a sister, Murlene Hackworth, Taylor, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pineville Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Cartwright will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ozark Funeral Home
