Eric was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Benjamin and Ethelene Barnes on June 5, 1965. He received his formal education by attending the Vailsburg High School in Newark, New Jersey and later graduating in 1984.
As life progressed, he went on to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina for 2 years.
His undergraduate studies were short lived due to enlisting into the United States Army. There he achieved the rank of Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1992.
He later became a Corrections Officer with the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia where he attained the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 2012.
Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day, in that land that they call heaven, God shall wipe all tears away.
Preceded in death by his Uncles, John Earl Newsome, Willie Ralph Thomas and James Newsome; Aunts, Odessa Thomas and Rose L. Smith; Cousins, Willie Best, Sherman Best, Danyell Thomas, Willie Thomas Jr. and Willie Thomas III.
Survived by his parents, Benjamin and Ethelene Barnes; brother, John G. Barnes; wife, Audrey Barnes Johnson; son, Jarrell Barnes Sr; step-children, Markel and Christopher Gibson; grandchildren, Adele, Kira and Jarrell Jr.; his aunt, Mary Best; a host of other close relatives and friends.
