Mrs Hazel Mary Hammond, 101, died at Park Vista Retirement Community.

Born in Eastbrook, PA., a daughter of Enoch and Mary Ellis McCreary, Hazel came to Youngstown in 1904. She served in the Red Cross during World War I and World War II. Mrs Hammond had taught in the Market St. School, where she taught in a class with 40 seats, and two children sat in the seats! When she had completed her teaching studies at Slippery Rock Normal School, she also had taught at New Wilmington and Farrell schools. She was a member of First Christian Church of Youngstown, DAR, Mahoning Garden Club, Quest Club, a board member at TWCA, charter member of Namid Dancing Club and honorary life member of the Youngstown Club. Mrs Hammond had played golf, in her younger years, at the old Poland Country Club and Tippecanoe Country Club. Summers were enjoyed with her family at a cottage at Chautaqua.

Her husband, Atty. Gerald F. Hammond, whom she married July 1, 1911, passed away Dec 1, 1965.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs Rae Davies of Andover; a son, Atty. Robert M. of Youngstown; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
