He was born March 21, 1932 in Bruins, Arkansas the son of Sam and Nancy Howard.
Samuel lived in Rockford since 1971 coming from Arkansas. He married the former Josephine Sauls September 23, 1955 in Ashland, Mississippi. Samuel was employed as a welder by W. A Whitney for 21 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of New Life Center. He attended schools in Arkansas.
Samuel leaves to cherish many loving memories, devoted wife, Josephine Howard; four daughters, Vivian (Michael) McClinton, Theresa Franklin, Petrenna (Raymond) Merkerson and Juanita Howard; two sons Samuel (Oletha) Howard Jr. and Darryl Howard; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; brothers Jessie Howard and Frank Howard; sister Vernelia Harris; a host of other relatives and friends including his best friend, John Cooper Sr.
He was predeceased by his parents, son, Joseph Nathan Howard and daughter, Angela Renee Howard seven sisters, and three brothers.
Services will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday September 26. 2017 St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church 2919 19th Street.
Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
